Dancehall star Shenseea continues to have a blessed year, after copping the 2021 Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Award for Best Reggae Act.  She’s the first female artist to win the Reggae Award since its inception in 1996.

The awards ceremony took place at the Coventry Building Society Arena in London, England today (December 5) and marked the first in-person show since 2017.

Shenseea, 25, shared the news via her official Instagram page with her 4.7 million followers. “I won a Mobo Award 🔥@moboawards Thank you to all who voted 💋,” she wrote.

The official MOBO Instagram page also made a congratulatory post for the singer whose given name is Chinsea Lee. “Huge congratulations on @shenseea for winning  BEST REGGAE ACT…”

The Blessed singer is set to release her debut studio album in early 2022, under Rvssian’s Rich Immigrants label (a joint venture with Interscope Records).  Among her new releases of the year was Run Run, the first single from the still-untitled project, which currently has 6.7 million views on YouTube since its release in July 2021, while Be Good, released in August 2021, stands at 3.9 million.

On November 23, Shenseea earned a nomination for Album Of The Year at the upcoming 64th Annual Grammy Awards, following her two features on Kanye West’s Donda album. The songs, Pure Souls with Roddy Rich and Ok Ok Pt.2, peaked at No. 52 and No. 12 respectively, on the Billboard Hot 100 following their release in late August.

The other nominees in the Best Reggae Act category were Skillibeng, Popcaan, Sean Paul, Lila Iké, and Spice. This was the first nomination for Skillibeng. Lila Iké was nominated last year, while Shenseea had secured a nomination last year in the Best International Act category.

This was the second nomination for Spice, while Sean Paul won the award in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2013.  Popcaan, who has been nominated seven times, had won in 2015 and 2016.

Buju Banton won the Best Reggae Act award last year.

Shenseea’s fans, affectionately referred to as ShenYengz were equally elated at her win. Hundreds flocked her comments sections to congratulate her.

“Congrats mi artist you deserve it 😍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥,” one excited fan wrote.

“I’m so proud of you Shenseea you make me smile ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲,” another added.

Meanwhile, another supporter said, “What’s for you will always be for YOU! Congratulations baby girl 🐉🤞🏽
