Shaggy

With 12 studio albums, including the collaborative, Grammy Award-winning 44/876 with Sting, Shaggy is one of the most diverse artists in the world.  On October 1, the Rae Town native released the deluxe edition of his 2020 album Christmas In The Islands, with four additional songs: Amazing Christmas (featuring Hannah Brier and produced by Costi), Nothing Like the Holidays, featuring Bunji Garlin, We Three Kings and Silent Night featuring Sting.

In this quick interview with DancehallMag, Shaggy talks about his most recent Grammy nomination and why he’s making Christmas albums for the culture.

JR: Executive Producer on Spice’s 10, you’ve earned your 8th Grammy nomination. What does this one mean to you?

Shaggy: It’s my second time being nominated as producer/executive producer.. Last year it was for the Maxi Priest project (It All Comes Back To Love). I like working with different artists and collaborating .. it gets my creative juices flowing … so it’s less about the nomination and more about the creative process.

What are your next promotional moves for Spice?

That’s up to Spice and her management team, whatever direction she decides to take I’ll be here in support.

Will you be doing more music with her?

I will always do music with Spice as long as it’s beneficial to us both creatively.

Will you be at the Grammys this year?

I will be at the Grammys in support of Spice and the other nominees.

What’s the name of your latest Christmas album?

The Christmas album is entitled Christmas In The Islands .. It’s the same album I released last year except this year’s edition is deluxe. It’s got 4 new songs, featuring Sting, Bunji Garling, Hannah Bier.

The main thing I wanted to do was to have a body of music that represents our culture during Christmas, with some of our greatest artists. I’m a fan of Mariah Carey’s song and Christmas projects .. (she)just doesn’t have any dance hall or reggae … so(mine) was mainly done for our culture.

What are you doing for Christmas?

Home with the family and promoting Christmas in the islands.
