Friday Night Cru Serves Ambitious Grooves On New EP ‘Welcome To Friday’

Jamaican rap duo Friday Night Cru served ambitious grooves on their latest EP Welcome To Friday. The project comprises two new hybrid tracks, 876 and Come Gimme, that showcase the pair’s sound and vision to new listeners. Comprised of Damani ‘Dash D’ Gardner and Djavan ‘KinDah’ Warner, Friday Night Cru was born out of the childhood friends’ desire to diversify the sounds on the Jamaican scene.

Their recent singles Follow My Lead featuring fast-rising Ghanaian-American star Amaarae and Jamaica’s own Tessellated, Look At Your Body (LAYB) ft ZAC JONE$ and Enough ft Grammy-Award winning singer Jane McGizmo featured spicy global accents, while their singjay/rap flair remained the main ingredient.

Welcome to Friday is no different, and the duo delivers on their moniker, a nod to the non-stop vibes that Kingston nightlife is known for. The multi-genre delight highlights various elements–Afropop instrumentals, light drums, breezy dancehall rhythms-–which translates to the perfect blend of Rap, Afro-Beats and R&B.

The duo created a multi-dimensional experience with just two tracks; 876 (produced by Ramoon & Ransom) being the classic, hard-hitting club-banger and Come Gimmie (produced by Mozambique native, Trackmaster) which features fellow music upstarts Runkus and Truvi.

In addition to the tracks, in true FRIDAY NIGHT CRU fashion, they have released accompanying visuals that underscore the duo’s sound with beautiful people and landscapes – captured in and around Kingston. “We really believe in connecting people visually as much as sonically with our music so we decided everything we did had to come with accompanying visuals, down to the artwork.” KinDah explained.

The types of varying sounds that come out of the Friday Night Cru studio are universal yet unique to the delivery of their flows, and they’ve already garnered the attention of many influential listeners, from AudioMack to Pandora where the tracks have been scooped up on playlists. With their danceable beats and a boundless brand, (Welcome to Friday is a play on WTF, after all) Friday Night Cru creates the perfect atmosphere for overdue outdoor vibes.
