DJ Khaled Batters Bob Marley Guitar

A video of DJ Khaled using his palm to beat a Bob Marley guitar like an old ‘kette drum’, has left the We The Best producer at the mercy of jeering Twitter users, who are ridiculing him for what they describe as his gross ineptitude.

The video surfaced over the weekend of Khaled pointing to the string instrument and saying that he had been given one to unbox.  The Guild guitar, which was launched at the beginning of October, was designed in collaboration with the Reggae icon’s family and is based on his personal Madeira A-20 guitar, which he used for songwriting at home.

In the video, DJ Khaled shows off the case and the guitar which was sent to him either by the manufacturer or the Marley family. He had pointed out that the instrument arrived with a short note about its origins.

However, if fans were expecting Khaled to lightly strum the guitar to the tune of one of Marley’s songs when he took up the instrument, they had another thing coming.

What Khaled did next was nothing short of stupefying.  He held the guitar and began striking the strings with his entire hand, seemingly oblivious to the fact that what he was doing was utter buffoonery.

Over on Twitter, CaptCrustacean set off a firestorm when he stated mockingly that Khaled was incompetent not only at the guitar, but at even basic things.

“I truly believe DJ Khaled can’t read, play guitar, and has no idea which way land is,” he said, immediately gaining support from TKOprovidence.

“I don’t understand how @djkhaled is considered a music artist especially after this….whatever this is. How he’s made it this far in life is a remarkable feat of itself. He just made every person who’s NEVER picked up a guitar a better guitar player than him,” TKO Providence wrote.

Other Twitter users expressed disdain for the manner in which they thought Khaled was treating the instrument as if it lacked significance.

“Prayers for the manufactures that took the time to design this guitar just for DJ Khaled to treat it like a disposable product… and never “use” it again. Only for social media clout,” OneWithShade said.

“The Marley family sends you a guitar and a personalised message and you do this with it? On camera? One thing Khaled does not lack, is confidence,” Rawiri James said sarcastically.

Lildazzlex however, came to Khaled’s defense.

“He is a music producer. Traditionally a music producer doesn’t really need to know how to create music. It’s kinda relatable to like a CEO who runs a big tech company but doesn’t actually know how to engineer but has a good vision and knows how to manage projects and market well,” he wrote, before being challenged by Left wing Hades who noted that: “That’s really weird b/c most producers know how to play at least one instrument. Or understand how music works. Or at least know when not to play something.”

As the mockery continued some Twitter users likened Khaled’s behavior and countenance to a little child playing around in a toy store.

“This is what it’s like when you take a 9 year old to Guitar Center after their first lesson,” Grant Hamilton said, while budweiserchrist added: “For real this is what I did as a little kid playing with my dad’s old guitar lol.”

Also joining in the mocking festivities were Brendan Murphy and Zack.

“Dude I just saw the vid of dj khaled playing the bob marley guitar and I’m laughing so hard I’m gonna piss myself,” Murphy wrote.

“Pretty sure Bob Marleys ganja ghost would appear to smack the shit out of him for playing his guitar like that,” Zack jeered.

David Nightingale was dismissive of Khaled, who he said was giving the impression that he had been given an actual guitar from Marley’ old collection.

“He’s acting like the Marley family personally sent him Bob’s old guitar. It’s £330 online,” he wrote.

Over on Guitar.com, Khaled’s prowess with the guitar was also discussed, in an article titled  The Internet is baffled by DJ Khaled’s acoustic Tribute to Bob Marley, with the author pointing out that the Palestinian-American “demonstrates the guitar by beating it as if it owes him money” and “not a single note is fretted as Khaled hammers all six of the slightly-out-of-tune strings”.

“The performance does not sound like it’s coming from a man with multiple platinum-selling albums under his belt, but it is…,” the article said.
