Sean Paul Recalls The Time A Fan Broke Into His Hotel Room While He Was Sleeping
Sean Paul’s super-stardom has certainly come with a fair share of crazy fan stories.
During the fun Q&A segment on the Celebrity Search Engine podcast with host Abbie McCarthy yesterday, Paul recalled one of the craziest moments he’s ever experienced with a fan, that involved a hotel room break-in. It was during the heights of his Temperature record release circa 2006, and the Dancehall artist said he was staying at a hotel in Chicago for a show.
“In Chicago, I woke up, I did the show, showered, put a towel around me, then dropped into bed and went to sleep and then early in the morning I’m hearing knock knock, and I looked at my clock and it’s not cleaning time,” he said.
“So I’m like ‘no thanks go away’, and then I heard the door open and I was like go away and I looked up and a young lady standing there with one of those cameras, and she’s taking pictures, and my towel was flying off and I was like yoooo, she zips in my bag, took a shirt and runs out and I was like what the frick!”
To this day Paul said he doesn’t understand how she got in his room although the hotel personnel told him his door must have been unlocked.
“It was a weird time for me,” he continued, explaining that with the epic success of his track Temperature, those fan-crazy moments happened all the time.
Temperature, which was produced by Rohan “Snowcone” Fuller appeared on Paul’s The Trinity album. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Paul’s third No. 1 hit single. It reached the top 10 in Canada and France and the top 20 in the United Kingdom, peaking at No. 11 there. In Australia, Temperature debuted at No. 19 but quickly found its way to No. 5 the following weeks.
The track became Sean Paul’s biggest hit single in the U.S. Even though it only spent one week at No. 1, and spent 17 weeks on Billboard Hot 100 in the top 10 and became the first single of his to sell an excess of one million digital downloads, earning platinum certification.
