Mavado, Konshens Recruited By Panamanian Artist Akim For New Single ‘MERFI’: Watch

In their first collaboration, Dancehall star Konshens and the Gully Gad Mavado have joined forces with Panamanian singers Akim and Chamaco on the single MERFI.

The new release debuted this week from Carbon Fiber Music Inc, after the original track was released in 2019.  The re-release with new visuals appeared on Thursday (September 9) with the two Jamaican Dancehall acts mixing their native dialect to produce a record that connects to a wider range of music lovers.

The music video, which was partly shot on site in the tough streets of Panama, finds the four artists relaying the discipline and loyalty it takes to be a gangster.

MERFI, which represents ‘authentic truth’ and ‘certainty’ translates to “Keep[ing] it real in the streets,” as Mavado echoes on the drop of the beat. “We don’t like sell out and we don’t like police, magazine ram in a di belly of the beast,” he deejays to exact his aversion with snitches.

Konshens picks up the verses to spur a narrative of the dodgy life among hustlers but like the Gully Gad, he too insists, “We nuh informer, we nuh chat chat.”

Together with the Dancehall stars, Panamanian singers Akim and Chamaco were the perfect pairing in this collab. The two Reggaeton artists have also collaborated on several other songs together, namely, Paren Firme, Sensi, Me Toco, Boomerang, Venaito, and Mas Cabron Que Yo to name as few.
