Dexta Daps paid tribute to veteran deejay, Louie Culture inviting him onstage for a surprise performance at an event in Brooklyn New York, on Saturday night, and his fans, from all indications, loved every single moment of it.

On Monday Dexta posted two video clips of Louie Culture’s performance, and showered the Portland native with praises, declaring how honored he felt to be performing with one of Dancehall’s most iconic Rastafarian deejays.

“GOTTA POST THISSSSSSSSSSSS… I APPRECIATE THIS LEGEND @1gangstalee BEYOND WORD…🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿” he wrote of the man whose Gangalee song which he heavily sampled, and repurposed into Call Me If, which became one of the biggest Dancehall songs in 2020 spilling over into 2021.

“PASSING HIMMMMM A 🎤 PROBABLY MEANS MORE TO ME THAN TO HIMMMM HONESTLY…🙈😎🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲#powerandstrengthofunity

Louie Culture shared Dexta’s sentiments on his own Instagram page.

“Its an honor a joy and and an inspiration to be on stage performing with the future of our music @dextadaps all the way. #realknowreal
dexta dappa daps real artist💯,” he wrote.

Dexta’s Call Me If, was among 19 songs that featured on Montego Bay music producer Zum’s Liquid Sunshine juggling riddim, and was also featured on Dexta’s 16-track Vent album which was released on July 30 last year and debuted on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart at number 10.

The Calabar High School old boy had featured alongside an expansive list of established artistes on Liquid Sunshine, among them Vybz Kartel and his longtime nemesis Mavado, Elephant Man, TeeJay, Jahmiel, Ding Dong, Konshens, Shenseea, , I-Octane, Sikka Rymes, and Kemar Highcon, Shaneil Muir, Denyque as well as disc jockey ZJ Liquid.

Unlike the militant figure described by Louie Culture in the original track, Dexta redefined the Gangalee as a ‘champion jockey’,  repurposing the entire second verse of Gangalee into insights of his bedroom prowess, as he urges the woman he is lusting after to cheat on her man with him, as he knew she wants the “Real Gangalee”, which happens to be him.

Louie had expressed delight from the outset that Dexta had chosen to sample Gangalee, which was released in 1994.

He had pointed out that when Dexta contacted him saying he wanted to sample the song, the Seaview Gardens native had intended for him to actually feature on it and had invited him to the studio to voice his part.   Upon hearing the demo, Louie said he felt it was already perfectly done by Dexta, and he was not needed.   He also declared then and there, to Dexta, that the song would be a hit.

Louie was perfectly right, as by October, Call Me If was topping charts not only in Jamaica, but in several other islands.  According to Apple Music the song topped its Top 100 charts in the Cayman Islands, Barbados, Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, Belize, British Virgin Islands and Anguilla.  The song has also cumulatively racked up more than 11 million views on YouTube to date.

On Monday, Dexta was commended by his fans for showing due respect to the elder.

“Much respect yute fi this. That’s why your star keep shining. Yuh show love and respect to the legends who came before you @dextadaps,”
ricknyce said.

“Big respect for showing respect to the veterans In the business @dextadaps they created something and we are just enhancing it now. Bless bro,” was the comment from hbrebelmusic.
