Macka Diamond’s Big Woman vs Yung Gyal single is back in the spotlight again following the release of a slew of counteraction songs. Originally released in April 2021, the renewed traction behind the song is welcomed news for the veteran female artiste, who has said that it is a testament to her strength as an entertainer.

“When I counteract songs I only go after the hits so the fact that these artiste chose to counteract Big Woman vs Yung Gyal means I’m doing something right and I am appreciative of every song inspired by my single,” Macka said.

According to Diamond, the track was inspired by her own challenges with ageism in the industry, something she realizes post the release of her song is a topic people are really interested in.

“The song is loved by both grown folks and young fans alike, but its definitely the anthem of women over 40 years old. They needed a song like this to celebrate their mature beauty, as we say – wi old but wi nuh cold,” Macka explained.

While Macka’s song speaks to the positive benefits of dating an older woman versus a younger female, the counteractions which seem to be coming fast and furious, flip the artiste’s argument on its head, while other tunes change course entirely switching the gender, bringing the match up to men.

Mikeylus, Yaga Tee and Nefatari are the major counteractions thus far, with some tunes defending the young girls to one that speaks to big men vs young boys.

Macka Diamond, who was early in her career known as the counteraction queen when she was called Lady Mackerel, said she sees the growing number of counteractions to Big Woman vs Yung Gyal as a positive for the original track, which she expects will continue to grow in popularity.

She further shared that the catchy lyrics and the beat are just part of the reasons behind the song’s success, a success she said was seen during the early days of the song’s release which had amassed a lot of organic traction.

Macka believes that once visuals for the more mature women’s anthem is released in the coming weeks, the song will again experience another surge in traction.
