Buju Banton Shares New Song ‘Summer Body’: Listen

Dancehall star Buju Banton has released a new single dubbed “the anthem of the summer” and aptly titled Summer Body.

Produced by Banton himself and Lloyd “Jon Jon” James Jr., the track features a hardcore 90s Dancehall riddim as Buju calls for females to enjoy themselves and celebrate freedom from lockdowns this summer season.  The new song follows the release of visuals for a collaboration with Nigerian singer Tomi Thomas titled Hurricane.

Summer Body defines the mood for many women who are yearning to return to the outdoor festivities. Celebrating life, removing doubt and restrictions is the underlying message throughout this single,” a release said.

Buju sings on the chorus, “Summer body, gyal dem tender  // Hot and ready, Pretty to a fault // Look how long Dem have yuh cutie body lock up inna vault // A ready yuh ready fi bruk loose, come mek the party start.”

One fan commented on the single’s visualizer, “This reminds mi of the old Buju can we get more of this style please it’s missing from our music jah jah”.

Another added, “This is the Buju I grow up on…..Bogle, Big It Up, Batty Rider, Have to Get You Tonight, Look How You Sweet etc, etc, etc.”

Banton’s last album was Upside Down 2020, which was released last year and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.
