Kiprich Drops New Freestyle, Warns ‘Badmind’ To ‘Stay Far’

While many can’t wait to mingle as lockdowns lift in time for summer, Dancehall veteran Kiprich has sent a stern warning: Stay Far.

The singjay’s latest single of the same title is an intense freestyle aimed at his detractors over a mellow and familiar pop music beat. Kippo’s melodic patois rhymes over Lewis Capaldi’s Someone You Loved instrumental has since been making the rounds on social media. While some are speculating who’s the target of the searing diss track, others have given his buzzing delivery a thumbs up.

Though the original song centers on disappointment and heartbreak, Kippo flips the script, making it clear he’s no pushover, and not here for any sad sentiments. “So from yuh nuh real, unnu betta know, seh when yuh soft, yuh get overthrow/ Nuh stand up in mi way, yuh reap wah you sow/ But me nah go mek unnu drain mi energy doh,” he sings. The Leggo Di Bwoy deejay also uploaded the song’s visuals; a solo studio session where he performs the Blunt Muzic production, rocking black aviators and the orange bandana swag from his Nah Waste Time days.

Kiprich, whose real name Marlon Jaro Plunkett, has had a colorful career since that breakout single nineteen years ago. Known for his lyrical cadence in Dancehall, the ‘wavy boss’ is credited as the writer for Elephant Man’s Jook Gal, whose remix featuring himself, Twista and Youngbloodz broke onto the Billboard charts in 2003.

Other notable singles include the radio standout Come Back Tomorrow feat Cecile, as well as his greatest, the entertaining lament Telephone Ting, and its follow up, The Letter.

Most recently, Kiprich appeared on the all-star lineup for Brighter Days, an upful joint track with the likes of Julian Marley, Jahvillani, Bounty Killer, Wasp, Gyptian, Tommy Lee Sparta, and more. “To elevate you leggo di heavyweight, da world yah full ah hate, step out yeah”, he sang on the Silver Birds production back in April. It seems the Tek Time deejay was gearing up to fire off at the ‘fake’, ‘badmind’ elements that inspired his So Focus Ent freestyle.
