Sean Paul’s wife Jodi “Jinx” Henriques, was again taken to task for making a comment which some Jamaicans on Instagram deemed as “looking down her nose at others”, a few days ago, six years after an almost-similar situation arose with Usain Bolt.

The comment in question came on Sleek Jamaica’s Instagram page where a Tik Tok video had been posted of two young men packing various types of food they had hoarded, into plastic containers and putting them in their backpacks.  The video was captioned: “How Jamaicans leave All-inclusive hotels”.

“And then wonder why the local rate is so much 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️,” Jodi wrote in seeming disdain in response to the video which was posted on Sleek Jamaica’s IG page.

However, some of the followers, seemingly still smarting over comments Jinx made six years ago describing her then neighbor, track icon Usain Bolt a ‘poppy show’ and a “clown”, who should ‘go back to where he came from”, seized the opportunity to tell off the self-styled “domestic engineer”.

Her first rebuke came from jay_will876, who, like many others contended that copious amounts of leftover food at the hotels’ buffet lines, still is highly fit for human consumption by public health standards, is discarded as waste on a daily basis.

“@jodijinx dat nuh have ntn to do with it!! food goes in the trash after breakfast, lunch n dinner,” he said and gained support from livi_neeuq, who wrote: “@jodijinx this has nothing to do with the rate. Matter of fact, majority of hotel food goes to the waste.

The biggest discussion was sparked by tuu_tru_tina who said Jodi was being condescending.

“@jodijinx girl bye that has nothing to do with local rate. It might not be the best practice but so what, the food always goes to the trash anyways. Kmt yuh always gwan like u uptight more dan nobody esle cuh yuh tan!” she said.

“She isn’t my cup of tea. If she had said something sensible I wouldn’t even say anything about it but the truth is; her comments most times come across very condescending hence the reason for my response.… especially when she doesn’t agree with something…I do however happen to see many of her comments on various blogs!” she declared.

Other followers told the television host that she “chat too much”, while others told her that her comment was nonsensical as “the local rate is less than the tourist rate”.

“@jodijinx stupid comment smh …i use to work at a hotel and it all goes in the garbage after thr line closed ,the food is all paid for hotel nah lose,” kriss_square said.

“@jodijinx u always coming with negative energy,” latoya_sweet rebuked, while chineyboii876 jeered: “@jodijinx stop gwaan like seh u don’t do that too🗿,”.

There were some followers though, who came to Jodi’s defence, including bizzle_dan.

“The lady just a post har personal opinion and there goes the hatred inna wi heart…. Jamaica all we need is love… FYI all hotel food & beverage is budgeted for on a daily basis…. In fact it does go over the daily budgeted amount,” he noted.

As accusations of classism rained, fierce.876 sought to be the voice of reason.

“I like Jody.. But you’re right, dah comment deh come off condescending.   And fortunate persons like her must be mindful how them comment dem way deh cuz them Naah fi worry about what or how them aguh eat… They don’t have that struggle. And as others been saying, hotel food waste everyday, so seeing a video like this should actually make you smile rather than be bothered,” he declared.

In 2015 Jodi was forced to apologise after evoking the wrath of the Unruly Boss, Popcaan and other Jamaicans worldwide, when she posted on social media that Usain Bolt, was, among other things, a horrible, raucous, neighbor and a clown for “Uptown people”.

“Between the bikes… , loud, horrid music, parties and screams, I honestly wish he would go back to where he came from. He’s a horrible neighbour. I cannot wait to move,” the furious Jodi Jinx had written on Facebook at the time.

“So unfair and disrespectful. I’ve honestly lost all respect for him. He takes his nasty behaviour with him everywhere. So many people love him and he’s such a poor example of how to behave. I honestly can’t blame the set of UPT (uptown) that have him as poppy show in parties or on their boat. He’s the ultimate party clown,” she added.

Her comments had renewed a national discussion on the impact of class and colour in Kingston and St. Andrew in particular.  While fans of the Olympic champion had rained expletives and disparaging comments at Jodi, forcing her to disable her social media account, Popcaan had issued his own rebuke of her using his own platform.

“Jinx leave Usain alone and move yo …. Ya gwaan like you born uptown. A people like unu nuh waa see ghetto youth have nothing. Big up Usain loud up the scheme wid the bike and the girl them some more and make some … dead,” Popcaan had posted.

A year after the issue had arisen, Bolt had told Ian Boyne, host of the television programme, Profile that he was left ‘shocked’ by the reactions of neighbors when he moved into the upscale St. Andrew apartment complex.  He also said while he would “hail” Jodi and her husband if they crossed paths, they could never be friends.

“Especially when I started out. It was more shocking than anything else. That was how I ended up buying my house,” Bolt told Boyne.

“I was living in a complex and I had issues with a few of the lighter-skinned people. I used to live near a lawyer and when I moved in, he said to me ‘be careful, they don’t like to see young people strive.’ ”

“When it started happening to me, I had to rush and build my house…,” the Trelawny native had said.
