Dancehall artist Moses ‘Beenie Man’ Davis will face the music when he returns to court for trial on two charges before the St Elizabeth Parish Court in Black River on Monday, April 19.

The Who Am I deejay pleaded not guilty when he appeared before the court in February to answer the charges that stemmed from an alleged illegal party in late November 2020. At that time, his bail was extended.

“The last time he went to court, they put one more charge on him and he pleaded not guilty. I don’t know what is happening on Monday, but the lawyer ah deal with it,” Rohan ‘Blue’ Smith, Beenie Man‘s manager told DancehallMag.

When contacted, Beenie Man’s lawyer declined comment, but a member of the law firm confirmed that they “had received the statements and the matter is set for trial on Monday.”

Beenie Man is accused of failing to obtain permission from the Superintendent, contrary to the Noise Abatement Act, and he has been charged with a breach of the curfew, contrary to the Disaster Risk Management Act (DRMA) order.

The DRMA was amended by the House of Representatives on March 23 and individuals found in breach of the health protocols now face fines ranging from $3,000 to $500,000.  A $10,000 fine is imposed for failure to stay inside a place of residence during a curfew.

First-time offenders of the Noise Abatement Act must pay a fine not exceeding $15,000 or serve a prison term not exceeding three months. For a second offense, they can be fined up to $30,000, or be imprisoned for six months. For a subsequent offense, they can be fined up to $50,000 or 12 months.

Beenie Man will be releasing his upcoming album Simma this Summer.

“We are releasing 14 tracks, but we might put on bonus tracks so it may be between 16 to 18 if we decide to do that. We plan to tour the album when the pandemic is over and live shows return in the US and Europe,” Smith said.

VP Records will distribute Simma, the Girl Dem Sugar’s 19th studio album.

Beenie Man has been sharing teasers on social media of Simma over the last couple of months. This album will be his first in 13 years, and it follows his last studio album titled Undisputed.

The album had been initially projected by Beenie to be released in August last year on his 47th birthday but was pushed back due to what he had described as “personal challenges.”
