Good Good Productions seems first in 2021 to answer recent calls for a revival of Dancehall’s ‘jugglin’ culture with their Self Trust Riddim, which was released today.

Issued last month by Jordan McClure of Chimney Records, the #JugglinChallenge called on all producers and production labels to collaborate with artists in the industry and produce a juggling record in 2021. The discussion surrounding the decline of juggling has been rising with many calling for a resurgence of the art form. For over two decades, juggling has allowed multiple artists to shine on a single platform/riddim and many artists have found their stardom from being featured on a beat.

From Denyque belting out affirmations in Champion to Chronic Law dropping shockingly candid lyrics like  ‘daddy tell me say mi probably dead lonely’ on Cold Stories, the Self Trust Riddim compliments every artist’s lyrics by setting an introspective mood for the listener.

The project features heavy hitters like Vybz Kartel, Skillibeng, Mavado, Intence, Jahmiel, I Octane, Shaneil Muir, and Tommy Lee Sparta.

There are only three females representing but each manages to bring real-life situations wrapped in good vocals. A riddim with over twenty artists could be a lot, but Good Good seems to be aware of the way the mind works by ordering tracks so an artist’s flow breaks up what could have been a monotonous medley.

Vybz Kartel is first on the beat with No One Can Stop It. In his usual Teacha way, Addi sets his romantic lyrics with a lay down-the-law swag and issues a warning about taking anyone’s word over his if he is your man.

Skillibeng partners with Jakal again – this time on the track One Life. The new star of Dancehall lets his voice rest lightly on the beat with the mantra-like chorus, ‘one life we have’ while Jakal jumps to the front warning ‘the clip ain’t got to be filled / all it take is one bullet’ before asking what you would do ‘if you could bring back one life’.

Other notable songs include Can’t Stay Sober from Konshens, who once again shows us his ability to craft a song that you can enjoy while holding a meditation or hitting the club, and Haters from rising star Intence.
