Mavado Welcomes Home Bobby Shmurda, “Out A Road Soldier”

Dancehall deejay Mavado is celebrating Brooklyn rapper Bobby Smurda’s recent release from federal lockup.

The Gully Gad took the time to welcome home Shmurda via Instagram yesterday by sharing an old clip of them both in the studio vibing to their 2014 collaboration on Smurda’s widely successful Hot Nigga. The remix also features Dancehall artists Junior Reid, Popcaan, and Jah X.

Mavado captioned the Instagram post, “Out a road Soldier,” tagging the 26-year-old rap sensation.

Shmurda, whose real name is Ackquille Jean Pollard was conditionally released from Clinton Correctional Facility in New York around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

The day before he thanked his fans and friends for their undying support throughout his sentence. “Thank you for remaining loyal and for riding this six year sentence out with me,” Shmurda wrote on his Instagram Stories. “I love you all and look forward to seeing you soon,” he added.

Mavado expectedly couldn’t have been more thrilled to see the young rapper finally free.  Many will know that he also wishes to see his son, Dantay Brooks, freed. The 18-year-old is currently awaiting sentencing after he was convicted for murder in January.

Other Dancehall celebs to acknowledge Smurda’s release were Elephant Man, (who jumped on Shmurda’s Shmoney Dance in 2014), Popcaan, and Ding Dong to name a few.

The outpouring of support from fans has surged his Instagram following from 900K on the day of his release to 4.2 million followers currently.

Shmurda’s short-lived stint to stardom came to a surprising halt when he was arrested in 2014 and subsequently indicted for a series of crimes; murder, attempted murder, assault, and drug dealing. He eventually pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder, weapons possession, and reckless endangerment and sentenced to 7 years in prison. The New York rapper will be under community supervision until his sentence is completed on Feb. 23, 2026.

Shmurda is best known for the hit single, Hot Nigga in 2014 which skyrocketed him to international fame when the song peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and also for the viral music video that popularized the Shmoney dance.
