Krystal Tomlinson, Beenie Man’s fiance, has disclosed that the ‘King of the Dancehall’ is doing just fine after a fainting spell at the graveside of his beloved mother in St. Elizabeth over the weekend.

“He is doing well. He wasn’t hospitalized despite what is being circulated. He is just grieving his mom,” Tomlinson, who is the PNP caretaker for West Rural St Andrew, told DancehallMag.

The entertainer, in a video circulated widely on social media,  fainted suddenly and had to be ushered away by four men. Eyewitnesses said that Beenie Man appeared to be overcome by emotion as he saw the casket being lowered into the cold muddy ground at the all-white farewell event. He fainted.

As he was being ferried away by a group of men, the mourners wept openly and the palpable raw emotions spiked as some wailed and screamed.

The daughter of Beenie Man and former dancehall queen Carlene Smith, also gave the Jamaica Observer an update about how her father was doing and also explained a little bit more about what happened on the day to cause the Who Am I singer to momentarily lose consciousness. She also assured fans that he was doing alright.

“He never ate the night before, he didn’t sleep the night before, and he was emotionally distressed… He did faint but wasn’t hospitalised,” 21-year-old Davis, 21, said.

She admitted that seeing his distress caused her own sadness to grow. She said after the incident she began to cry uncontrollably. She also said he was not the only one overcome with emotion who fainted during the service.

“Now I was crying because of my grandmother and because of my dad; seeing him in that state and knowing how he loved his mother,” she said. “The family… everyone was torn apart… emotionally distressed. It was just sad. Several other cousins fainted too.”

She also confirmed that all of her siblings including, Marco Dean, Moses Jr, Mosiah, Ikyra, Deshagaye and baby Xiah were present at the funeral. Video footage of the incident went quickly viral and many fans expressed their concerns.

Smith also took the time to thank everyone who showed their support to her family during their time of distress including the likes of entertainers like Bounty Killer and Richie Stephens who were also in attendance.

“I want to thank everyone who sent their condolences and their kind words and support. I also want to thank my mom, who comforted me during that rough time… as well as Aunty Kitty from Eternal Rest Funeral Home,” Davis added.

Beenie Man’s mom, Lilieth Sewell reportedly suffered a stroke in July 2020, and was hospitalised for some time. After she was discharged from the University Hospital of the West Indies, she died a few weeks later in September.

The ‘King of the Dancehall’ recently announced that he was building a community centre in his hometown of Waterhouse which is to be named after his mother and grandfather.
