Best New Dancehall Music This Week: Major Lazer, Shenseea, Vybz Kartel, Alkaline, Popcaan Plus More

In the usual world of Dancehall, we can always expect to hear several gun and bad man tunes. This week’s new releases did however unleash a few romantic dials, one from the Patriots leader, Jahmiel and there was TWani with his collab with Prince Pine.

There are some fresh, intoxicating beats from the Major Lazer trio in their teaming with Shenseea and another with Busy Signal off their Music Is the Weapon album which dropped today. An unexpected party banger also hit streaming today from the distinguishable, Munga Honorable.

Major Lazer featuring BEAM & Shenseea – Tiny

On their usually fresh and pulsating beats, Major Lazer entertains a lyrical dance between Beam and Shenseea in this new single Tiny. In detailing his ideal girl, Beam says, “Mi want a big batty gaal with a waist pon Tiny. Want Jamaican gal with pum pon chiney chiney,” as if directing his desires specifically on the Shengyeng singer.

Shenseea returns to fulfill him even greater than he had imagined, while listing her enticing assets.

Major Lazer featuring Busy Signal & Joeboy – Sun Comes Up

In Dancehall and soca infused acoustics, Busy Signal teams with Nigerian singer Joeboy for this hypnotic, carnival sounding single Sun Comes Up by Major Lazer. “We gonna have some fun. Until the sun comes up. You feeling the vibe, everybody put your cups up,” busy blares.

“Mami set …Out of all the girls a swear to God she be the best. So blessed with her Baka on fleek, the way she whine it all around fit make a badman weak,” Joeboy chimes in.

TWani, Prince Pine – Long Distance

TWani and Prince Pine are the ultimate Long Distance lovers in their new single. As their foreign beaus visit them on the island, the Dancehall deejays treat them to beaching and fine dining while warbling their rhymes. “I don’t really see you often but every time when I see you, I give you the sumting, make you come for dis long ting … love distance loving.”

Vybz Kartel – It’s A Sin

Vybz Kartel goes on a narcissistic trail, tooting his own horn in his latest release It’s A Sin. “Don’t badda ask me how mi dweet, any weh mi go a me run di the street. Haters cant f**k with us, we so confident. Yo we full a so much style is a sin, my mammy told me she proud a me,” he sings to bragger his dynamic and out-of-this-world lyrical skillset.

Intence – Gun Eediat

In another merciless gun tune, Dancehall artiste Intence calls out the Gun Eediats otherwise known as the “gun clowns” in the streets while detailing how it’s really done by a true killer, i.e. himself.

The music video scenarios the rookies doing it all wrong, “A wham’n to some bloo**clat Gun Eediat, d’even know how fi find the safety pon di Sig Sauer. Big gun clown, you nuh see the snake cock, send di man pon works and a bay send knee shot.”

Jafrass – Memories

In a musical memoir, Jafrass recollects a series of sad Memories, some of friends that have passed on, even sharing photos of their faces. He reminisces on the times he would daydream about owning a Mercedez Benz and when the streets was his ‘ends.’

“I’ve been through good times, I’ve been through bad times, all they leave is memories. Some memories will make you smile, some will make you bawl, have fi give thanks mi nuh dead, nuh want be a memory at all…” is a snippet of his lyrics.

Jahmiel – Show Me

Patriotz trailblazer, Jahmeil is questioning his girl’s authenticity in his new single Show Me. While he reels his inquisitions, he lessons the quality of what true love is all about.

“Show me whats really love … just keep it real with me … express how you feel for me. Want to be cherished then Show Me what you worth, give me a reason for me fi nu want flirt…”

Iwaata – Area Code

Iwaata is in the recording studio spitting his ruthless rhymes in his new music video for his single Area Code. He is as grimy as it gets, making the rounds in several “area codes” in Kingston City and detailing how he executes his murderous deeds;

“None a dem nu bad, none a dem nu rough, a nuh chatting ehuh dawg, fi you head will buss … Uptown make it claat, mi nuh take nu talk. Red Hills, Cassia Park lef dem head apart…”

Iwaata – Press Ee

In his follow up, Press Ee, Iwaata continues to flex his bad man image as he unleashes even more lyrical threats. One bad step and “rifle in a face” he warns while listing his many makes of firearm.

Munga Honorable – Cherish Everything

Munga Honorable is thankful and sodden with gratitude in his new single Cherish Everything. In sharing the lessons and advice from his mother and grandmother, he also imparts wisdom-filled verses with his audience.

“Life is a jungle, you haffi know weh you a do. Must remember where you trodding from fi know weh you a go. Mi granny sey, young bud never know weh storm do. So ghetto youth, yuh fi listen when you mama warn you.”

Munga Honorable – Shots Of The Hennessy

Munga drops another banger today; Shots Of The Hennessy is an upbeat and rhythmic tune where he doses us with a pretty slick-singing flow. It’s a party starter for sure;

“Could somebody pour me a few shots of di Hennesseeeey. Positive energy pocket full a cheese like Geneve and the high-grade make me feel heavenly …strap fi di enemy. Real top choppa lifestyle,” he intros the hook stirring a wicked party vibe.

Govana, Xtassi – That Mi Like Hear

In a comedic showdown, dancehall newcomer Xtassi and 4th Genna prodigy, Govana delivers brand new visuals for their previously released single That Mi Like Hear.

It’s The Govi Show with your host “Govi Govi, the girl’s dem nutty buddy” and Xtassi has the stage. Her man, Nick is not really cutting it for her, infact his views (i.e. calling her a prostitute for wanting a few gifts) are quite conflicting to Govana as well. “A wha you feel don, good p*ssy gal nuh want nuh mean man. Louie V bag, dat a fi 3 grand, she say she need one. Mi get two, mi get black and the green one,” he counters an oblivious Nick.

Popcaan & Dave East – Unruly

From the streets of Harlem/New York, rapper Dave East recruits the unruliest of them all for his new single Unruly. Dancehall heavyweight, Popcaan jumps on this butchering gangster track to amplify East’s ferocious confessions.

The Unruly Boss sways his unbothered rhymes to caution the masses of his badness and remind them all that he is always packing.

Vybz Kartel, Sikka Rymes, Lisa Mercedez – Badman

In less than a month after the release of their mega collab Badman, GAZA elites Vybz Kartel, Sikka Rymes, Lisa Mercedez, and their teaming with Bobby Konders now have new visuals to vividly portray their evilness.

Vignettes of the late rapper Pop Smoke, a daunting scenario of hunt & kill mixed with blood splatter, the new video relays a sense of retribution while portraying the lifestyle of street mobsters as they take on their deadly quests.

Stalk Ashley & Alkaline – Incognito

Stalk Ashley wants to take things Incognito with the Vendetta Boss. She likes him, he likes her, Stalk says even if he has a girl, she’s hides pretty well so don’t worry, “Nobody nah fi know,” she sings in her syrupy vocals.

Alkaline is all on board, “Yo send the addy, tell me weh fi meet you. Mi place outta di picture, tell me which part you go deh, caw mi want reach you. Yeah mi know a spot, nuh crowd a people…”

Jahvillani, Zimi – From Morning

Ladies man, Jahvillani appears in his new music video From Morning surrounded by several beautiful lasses ceding to all his wants and needs.

“A suh me stay from morning, wicked a brawling … f*** gyal often, everyday but anyway thug flow, love braffing, load up guard ring …” he chorales on the hook.

Busy Signal – One Press

Dancehall front liner Busy Signal says he’s the full package. “Weed, grabba, guns deh yah. Girls, whole heap a funds deh yah. Ice, chaser, rum deh yah,” are just a few of his comforts. The single goes on to shut-up the haters who question his achievement, further more the struggles he went through to gain them.

In another new release, Busy scenarios yet another case of people hating on him, this time it’s his girl’s mother, realised in the title Your Mama.

“It’s like my best is not good enough. People say what they want when dem see we, try fi wreck it but them cant … but there is one person in your family always a give me bad energy. Even if mi visit you fi chill and drink a beer girl, you mada say sumpting negative bout me.”
