Popular dancehall deejay Rygin King is closing out 2020 on an upful note, reminding himself and his fans that he’s a man on a Mission.

After surviving a harrowing shooting incident and the loss of his girlfriend and attempts on his life earlier this year, the Tuff deejay is slowly recovering and rebuilding his chart presence. The 25-year-old whose real name is Matthew Smith,  was rushed to hospital on June 28th following a gun attack by unknown assailants in Struie district, Westmoreland.

He spent many weeks in medical facilities, transferring at one point due to security concerns, and undergoing critical surgical procedures. Eager to resume hitmaking and put the past to rest, he’s dropped new songs such as Larger Than Life and No Emotion since being discharged from hospital. Mission, however, is Smith’s first time lyrically addressing the shooting and sharing with his fans his anticipation for better days.

The Reno Don Musiq track begins with a news clip of the unfortunate incident before Rygin King gets down to business on the mellow beat. Speaking directly to his attackers, King spits, “Go tell dem seh we nah dead fi now cah we nuh ready fi die”, before singing his affirmation in the chorus, “All now mi nuh rich yet, but I’m gettin’ there/ I’m on a mission, the vision is clear/ When dem a wish death, order ma steps/ Everyday when mi touch di road…”

Acknowledging the steep road ahead to recovering and realizing his dreams, King further outlines his focused outlook. “Jus look at what we doin an places we been, we brave an determined, we destined fi dis/ Mi put mi all inna music so mi songs dem big/ Jus a prepare fi di wealth becah mi know mi go rich…One day, we nah go wait much longer, tings a go get better, deh yah ah hol’ it out inna di pressure.”

Fans are here for the Larger Than Life deejay finally speaking his truth, and the song has racked up 70K views since its midday debut. Among the excited reactions were, “Another hit song no joke thank god the Man still alive we lose too much people this year already just protect your self rygin king continue to put out these great songs”, as well as, “Rygin King you always rising. God above all things, The Lord knows best and why you’re still here. Well constructed song.”
