R&B siren Christina Milian caught some heat this weekend for not roasting a breadfruit before consuming it and posting the blunder on Instagram.

Breadfruit is one of Jamaica’s most beloved staples, usually boiled, baked, or roasted before being enjoyed. Though she appeared excited, the American star was apparently unaware that it needed to be cooked and was even slightly confused about its name. Dancehall princess Shenseea eventually entered the chat with a live demonstration, but by that point, Milian addressed her botched public attempt in a humorous IG Story post.

Milian called the fruit a “sweet bread” before slicing it in two to find out what it tastes like. She corrects her error with the name but then proceeds to sample a wedge, saying it “tastes tropical” after a few bites.

The upload was quickly shared on various outlets to the surprise and horror of many Jamaican users. Comments sections were filled with ridicule and concern as the fruit is said to be poisonous and purging if consumed raw.

“See this why I don’t be believing these ppl when they be reviewing things, because you not telling me green uncooked breadfruit had any type of good taste to it bout it taste good and tropical,” one user said, while another quipped, “Hope she doesn’t get stomach pains, taking bites like it’s a apple.”

Shenyeng songstress Shenseea stepped up to show Milian the ropes, uploading a video demonstration for the Dip It Low crooner while shouting, “who’s gon’ tell her?” in the background.

Eventually, Milian addressed the trolling after she found out the error of her eager ways. “I am now aware you’re supposed to COOK breadfruit!” she said in an IG Story update. “Obviously I’ve never seen or tried one in my life, but next time. I will boil it! Maybe fry it! Most important, eat it!”
