Dancehall neophyte Rytikal sat with the folks over at The Fix yesterday for a one and one to talk about the secrets of his newfound success, the feels of the music industry and being signed to EastSyde Records.

Like many dancehall artistes, Rytikal said he taught himself music and the art of deejaying. Intrinsically he understood how to manipulate notes and keys to deliver his tracks. While that is a commendable skill-set in itself, what really should have been up for discussion is his out of this world ‘galaxy brain.’

Not quite the exact question we were hoping for but co-host Naro’s assumption in this inquisition gave us some great insight. His statement was, “Yuh watch whole heap ah anime don’t?” Rytikal not only confirmed this but spoke about his go-to series, a Japanese edition entitled Bleach, which he described as being about demons and demon killers.

The deejay says a lot of his music is influenced by anime especially that they’re usually action-packed and ‘grimy’. He’s also fascinated with Sci-Fi and extraterrestrial phenomena. To the youths, he shares some advice and a little secret of his, “read.”

On the not-so controversial topic of his unmistakable sound to label mate Skillibeng, Rytikal says there is no problem with that and why should he have one, EastSyde is one family.

However he insists that there are distinctions between them but was in no rush to prove it, “Just continue listen di both artiste,” he says. Implying that eventually, the people will hear how different they are.

As the conversations went on further, Rytikal disclosed that there is new music on the way, something for the ladies, a new track entitled Cookie Jar. That’s as much as he said but knowing this lyrical mastermind it should be something to listen out for.

Extra-Galactical Freestyle

Prepared for a showdown the deejay came with his crew and mic for a slick freestyle demonstration of his astronomical lyrical vocabulary. Tossing around his usual celestial rhymes like, “This uno fi know, fi mi brain nu deh a land, mi nu meds terrestrial, mi transcelestial, a meds beyond di Milky Way a show dem evolution, master fi cognition, take yuh to the stars, intellectual provision,” he spits in one segment.

In another verse, he says before he goes on further “go get your encyclopedia” as he drops more mind-blowing lyrics. “Psycho me dat, EastSyde superior, the new monarch fi di era, solid brain interior.”

If that wasn’t enough, he went on to voice his thought-provoking single Galaxy Brain, which is just another rundown of his intergalactic idiosyncrasies.
