Dancehall veteran Beenie Man is usually reticent about his personal life, but today he unveiled the curtains to show the current state of his mother’s health.

His mother, who had suffered a stroke last year, is currently under care at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston. The ‘Doctor’ made a visit to the facility today and took to Instagram live to document the experience.

“People mi madda inna di hospital and a one a di worst times fi know seh yaa go visit yuh madda inna di hospital when she sick,” he told viewers. “It’s not something weh mi like do. It’s a serious point but mi madda get some strokes and she never get over it and she deh inna di hospital. So it’s not even a good thing or a good time to har,” he said.

He donated a 50-inch smart television before making the trek to her ward. Upon arriving, the Romie deejay is seen talking to another man who advised him that the section is closed off to visitors. He then gets up to leave with the man but is called by a nurse who grants him visitation access to his mother. The Live camera kept rolling as the entertainer made his way to his mother’s bedside, which was shielded off by curtains.

In the intimate and vulnerable moment, one would have thought the live video would have come to an end to facilitate some privacy. Instead, the camera is placed on Beenie’s mother, who did not look in her best condition and wore a lavender nightgown and black facial mask.

A voice repeating “Tek it off she” can be heard in the background, and the camera person complies for a few seconds before returning to Beenie’s mother.

After some time, Beenie signals to the camera person to end the live video.

tvIn November, the deejay posted a video of his mother trying to stand after undergoing therapy to combat the physical effects of the stroke.

While walking through the parking lot of the hospital today, the artiste was greeted by some fans, son of whom asked for photos. In a subsequent live video following his departure from the hospital, Beenie opened up about the challenges of being a public figure when going through personal battles.

“Me is the breadwinner of my family enuh, mi haffi continue working and some people nuh know how hard that is; showing a good face at all times and trying to smile at all times when yuh heart a hurt,” Beenie Man said.

“Some people nuh understand what it is to be who I am. Mi just a come outta hospital. Mi haffi tek picture with a little girl, we haffi tek picture with more people, haffi tek picture with doctors. Yuh still a gi weh things… Yuh shoulda up inna yuhself and up inna yuh feelings… of course I am but it’s not for you to see… when mi go up likkle more… mi load up mi chalice and you know a different meds.”

He also donated a 50-inch smart television to the hospital before heading to a recording studio to work on new music.
