Ten years into their marriage, singer Wayne Marshall cooked for his wife, Tami Chin, for the first time on Mother’s Day (May 10).

The moment of truth came days after Chin revealed on her YouTube vlog channel (eponymously named) that her husband had never cooked for her, and teased that he lacked the competencies to even boil water.

With tons of encouragement from fans, the Overcome artiste stepped into his kitchen on Sunday morning apron ready, determined to not only treat his wife, but prove critics wrong.

“I feel so excited right now, this is actually the best thing in the world right now to me,” Chin said.

With their three kids coming in and out of the frame, Chef Marshall grabbed a nonstick frying pan and rolled out his menu of his wife’s favourite: eggs, bacon and toast.

“People let me tell you straight, Tami is here to see me fail… she underestimates me and she seh mi cya boil water and she seh me cya do nothing,” he said. “I’m not a self-proclaimed chef… Fi tell yuh di truth I don’t think mi ever do a fry egg but mi a nuh idiot. Mi a observe and a watch over the years.”

Though Chin and their helper, Momo, were open to assist, he stood resolute on earning his stripes solo.

Struggling to pull the bacon out the pack, Chin reminded him that he needed to light the stove first.

“People, remember I’m cooking under extreme pressure,” said Marshall. “I have a full kitchen and how much phone is in here filming and they’re doubters. There are non-believers in the room.”

But he eventually got into the groove of things.

“People, when di fat burn off of this now, it give you a little… like it mek a oil, so a mek mi a mek mi oil right now… See how mi a catch on fast,” he said while turning the bacon strips.

“But da something ya nuh too bad, it kinda feel therapeutic…” Marshall spoke too quickly as spurts of oil came his way. Bobbing and weaving from the popping pan, he was soon on to his eggs.

Using a knife to crack his first egg, he received some pointers from Chin on how to master a perfect egg, with yolk still intact. This took practise, but he reaped praises for the silky eggs.

“I am the proudest woman on the planet and the happiest one too,” Chin said, “Honestly best thing ever, you made my whole day. Thank you.”

“I’m gonna get it tonight!” his sexual innuendo flew. Chin assured.

It’s safe to say fans can anticipate more cooking videos from the artiste.

“Mi biggest problem is di meat; mi have a phobia fi it but mi a get over it right now with counselling and yoga. So mi a go start season mi ting, season mi chicken, season mi fish, scale mi fish…mi nah hold back from no dish.”

He added, “All who did feel like seh it wouldn’t work, see the journey start and the journey start good. So my fake cooking show, in a store near you soon.”
