The Gazanation seems to be making big plans for 2020, Vybz Kartel and former mentee, Tommy Lee Sparta have announced that they are working on new music together.

Both artistes made the announcement on Instagram, urging fans to follow Naviigator Entertainment, who is the producer of the upcoming track. The release date and title of the song have not yet been revealed, however, the collaboration is already being highly anticipated by Gaza fans.

Tommy Lee and Vybz Kartel have a long history, which dates back to a few years before Kartel was arrested in 2011. Coincidentally, that was the year that Tommy Lee Sparta reportedly began to take the idea of being a musician seriously. Under the guidance of Kartel, Tommy Lee saw early success as part of the Portmore Empire, which dominated airwaves in Jamaica from 2010 to 2012.

Following Kartel’s incarceration and the subsequent shut down of Adidjahiem records, Tommy Lee Sparta gained more independence, establishing his own label called PG13 and a loyal fanbase. Although Tommy Lee has always shown his respect for Vybz Kartel, many reports led fans to believe that the pair were at odds for quite some time.

In 2013, Vybz Kartel penned a public letter in which he lashed out against both Popcaan and Tommy Lee, who of the most popular artists that came from his Portmore Empire camp. Kartel said he was “betrayed by Popcaan and Tommy Lee whilst going through the darkest hour of my existence”.

Since then, the artists have made amends to their relationship. In 2018, Tommy Lee visited Kartel in prison for the first time since his 2011 arrest. That same year, Vybz Kartel showed his support for Tommy Lee Sparta when he was released from prison. Sparta has posed for a picture with his lawyer, Tom Tavares-Finson (also the Lawyer of Vybz Kartel) after being arrested for organized crime in Montego Bay.

Following his legal troubles and hiatus, Tommy Lee Sparta has returned to the forefront of dancehall, with a slew of hits in recent months, including “Blessings”, “Vanilla”, and “Top Shotta”.
