Legendary Jamaican dancer Roxy aka Bumpa lost her life last night during a dancehall routine at a local Jamaican dance party. Bumpa and her Gladiator Dance colleague Momo decided to take on an impromptu dance challenge vying for the winnings of JA$3500.

The two were sure they’d snatch the prize by executing a daring yet routine choreography that required Bumpa to ‘stand on her head top’ (i.e. rotate her body 180° with the feet above the head). Once Bumpa got into position, Momo was to somehow jump over her colleague but things took a turn for the worst when she landed on top of Bumpa instead. This caused the famed dancer to break her neck and sent her crashing to the floor.

A video was released on social media some time after showing how the incident happened. It would appear Bumpa died on the spot, as she was unresponsive when witnesses tried to alert her. Two dancers attempted to move her but quickly resigned upon realizing the gravity of Bumpa’s fall.

Conversely there are statements on Facebook that say otherwise, that she succumbed to her injuries after she was taken to the hospital. “A dancer by the name of bumpa has died at the hospital today APPARENTLY Bumpa was on her headtop and MoMo was doing a freestyle that went horribly wrong as you can see in the video..RIP to this beautiful lady that lost her life🙏🏽🙏🏽”.

Bumpa leaves behind two sons Danj and Teddy, and while there are many that are speculating perhaps that she was careless with her lifestyle choices, others are coming to her defense. One Facebook commenter said, “Mi no response weh unu wah say Nothing is wrong with her doing promotion work that’s how she made a living for her kids. Sleep mi fren 🤧😪😔 gladiator girls them miss u dearly 😭😢😭😢😭😢 you memories live on forever. Rest up bumpa. You’ll forever be in our ♥️.”

Bumpa is a member of the dance group Gladiator Girls reigning from Montego Bay Jamaica. She is a decorated dancer, winning several awards for her craft and is known for her daring dance moves. Last night’s incident was indeed and unexpected tragedy.
