Head Concussion Records CEO Rvssian has finally released his star-studded song ‘IDKW’ after teasing its release earlier this week. The track, co-produced by Stephen “Di Genuis” McGregor, features dancehall singjay Shenseea plus American rappers Swae Lee and Young Thug.

Anticipation peaked as clips and photos were shared online by the song’s four collaborators.  Shen Yeng fans were especially bursting with pride and excitement at another international collaboration for Shenseea. Now that the track is out, the sentiments remain the same among die hard supporters.

The track begins with the Shenseea on the chorus singing some memorable dancehall lines, “You may not be a moviestar / You may not drive a big fast car  / But I love you in every way / Yes I love you in every way /I don’t know why.”

That chorus is inspired by Delroy Wilson’s 1969 rocksteady release “I Don’t Know Why’ and immediately the title of the track – IDKW, is understood.   I Don’t Know Why was later covered by dancehall artiste Wayne Wonder in 1992 and called ‘Movie Star’.    Movie Star was later remixed with Buju Banton and called ‘Bonafide Love’ which became the most popular version of the song.

The infamous Vybz Kartel signature “Hey Rvssian!” is heard before Swae Lee starts off the first verse. He raps on in his usual upbeat cadence. Next up is Young Thug on the second verse – “You ain’t got to have a mil’ for me to like you / It’s all about the appeal and all the nice shoes / All dem h$es hating on you throwing the rice, boo / But you can spend a half million, they ain’t like you / They watch me turn you up and now they want to fight you / I watch you ball on all dem bi$#hes just like Caillou / Fu$k you in the daytime and the night too / Bend your back, I want it face down like an iPhone”

Shenseea’s verse is final and following her expected signature – ah Shenseea, the dubbed dancehall princess carries on to state her claim to fame.

The accompanying video is directed by Los Angeles based director @arrad, who previously teamed up with Shenseea on her hit Blessed in early 2019. He is also known to work with popular chart toppers such as Chris Brown, Kehlani, Future and G-Eazy.

The visuals depict Swae Lee and Young Thug in a test lab where scientists attempt to concoct the perfect love interests while observing the rappers’ reactions. Later on, we see Shenseea and Rvssian in an iconic Dancehall session scene with choreographed dancers on the dancefloor and Rvssian as their DJ.

Here the fabricated love interest is revealed however fans are left guessing whether or not this experiment was successful as she is snatched after gaining Rvssian’s attention.

Russian is no stranger to hit collabs both local and international and having worked with the likes of Vybz Kartel Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, Kevin Gates he is now known as one of Jamaica’s most prolific producers.
