Vybz Kartel Wishes Jamaica A Very Merry Christmas In New Track “Beautiful Island”

The dancehall christmas carols have arrived with Vybz Kartel’s latest release Beautiful Island.

“Beautiful Island, beautiful people I only wanna wish you a very merry Christmas (A very merry Christmas)” he sings in the chorus of this three-minute ode to Christmas in Jamaica.  He masterfully takes us down memory lane through cherished  childhood memories of the festive season.

Beautiful Island, released for streaming on YouTube yesterday, evidently caters to Jamaicans in the diaspora who anticipate their return to the island during winter. Christmas in Jamaica, as Kartel rightly says, has grown synonymous with family, must-have delicacies like sorrel and fruit cake, firecrackers, grand market fairs and of course, consecutive parties to celebrate the holiday.

Jamaica remains the “home” of many migrants despite the prevalence of corruption, crime and injustice and, tugging at their hearts, Kartel reminds Jamaicans abroad of the love and happiness awaiting them at home.

Beautiful Island joins the World Boss’ catalogue of classic Dancehall Christmas carols like Everyday Is Christmas (2015). The single, produced by Short Boss Muzik, has already racked up over 140,000 views on YouTube.

Adidja ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer was sentenced to life in prison in 2014. Although behind bars at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in Kingston, Kartel continues to release music and joins the annual Dancehall Christmas tradition of providing music enthusiasts with a flood of festive singles for the season.
